The City of Vancouver finally approved some co-housing buildings that are going to be constructed in the empty lots on East 33rd Avenue. This new project is only 1 of a very small amount in Canada and it is aimed towards more affordable housing with shared bathroom, kitchen and common area facilities that can lead to cheaper infrastructure and maintenance fees as well.
The mayor of Vancouver has been striving hard to find solutions to the overwhelming cost of housing in the Greater Vancouver District. Its becoming an unaffordable city to live in and raise a family. If you need more than a 1 or 2 bedroom condo and make an average salary then you have no hopes.
This new social housing program is aimed at students, senoirs and young families that want a strong community and cannot afford individual housing. At the end of the day it might actually make a stronger city community as well!
